    Hi all,
Planning on housing sucklers over the next few days, what are my options for cows
Last year mastermectin pour on at housing & trodax 5 weeks later,
This year was advised by vet to go with closamectin, works out at 245 for 2.5 litres.
Pricey, Anyone recommend a cheaper alternative, don't mind injection either, obviously prefer the pour on but not going to pay over the odds it
    Appreciate any thoughts

Is Closamectin injection much cheaper per animal than Closamectin pour-on?

I'm going getting levafas diamond in the morning. Everything's too skittery for my looking.

Coop didn't have injection but had pour on.
2.5 litres would do 40 cows

    Incl fluke?
Yea all types of worms including lung worms. Liver fluke and the big one stomach fluke nearly lost a cow last year with stomach fluke had given her every dose under the sun and she was melting away got two vets out and the second one suggested stomach fluke. I believe it's raging this year. Any of the pour ons or injections will not treat stomach fluke it's must be an oral dose. I am sure of the ingredient in levafas that kills stomach fluke but it does come in other oral drenches aswell

Mature fluke only I think. Zanil has the same active ingredient for fluke.

I think there's might be cocaine in the levafas too that isn't in the Zanil.

Sorry not cocaine levamisole. Apparently an easy mistake to make. It seems them 2 are mixed up all the time.

The Levamisole in Levafas does not get type II worms which makes it unsuitable as a housing dose.

So does that mean that Zanil is better than Levafas diamond?

Levafas is levamisole, for worms, combined with the active ingredient of 'Zanil', oxyclozanide, for fluke.

The oxyclozanide doesn't kill immature fluke and the levamisole doesn't kill type II, the inhibited worms. Ideally your dosing regime at housing would cover both of those.

What are type two worms your correct on the immature fluke a second treatment is required

You're right, €230 for 1000ml which would do 40 cows

Is it not better idea to leave it a number of weeks to do cows for pour on etc.....as cows might then have actually picked up something that the pour on would kill iykwim.

inefective against type 2 ostertagiasis as mentioned not suitable for winter dosing

I wait 3 weeks after housing to use the Closamectin pour on. I think it says it on the bottle somewhere. To allow time for fluke to mature.
