Gardai very seldom give out parking tickets these days, the local authorities have taken over parking enforcement. While technically they could issue a summons for illegal parking against the registered owner, I'd say the chances of that happening are close to nil.

You must have been causing problems if a patrol car stopped and told you off.

I took another 30 sec to fold boxes and we drove away. But he wasn't happy I should just drop boxes and go :( how much would be parking ticket then ?

I was done by a Garda for parking before. €60 fine. So, they do do it, and it depends on their mood.

Sounds like they gave you a ticket, the cops only option with the OP is a summons since they didn't issue a fine on the spot aka a parking ticket.

I suspect the cops noted his reg. no. (or pretended to) simply to put the wind up him and based on this thread they seem to have succeeded.

They don't have to give you anything. I parked on the pavement outside the church n Multyfarnham (we all did so I thought that was the thing to do) and then a month later received a fixed notice penalty for 60 euro. No points though of course. So it depends.

OP, any vehicle is permitted to park on double yellow lines for a maximum 30 minutes for the purposes of loading or unloading "goods" (subject to not disobeying any other parking restrictions).

Goods is not defined to be anything in particular so the literal meaning would apply and this provision applies to any vehicle and not just goods vehicle.

    According to page 201 here it's a €40 fine:

I parked on double yellows for 2 mins in phibsborough a while back. Outside TSB for those that know it. The. Alert beside it always have vans and trucks parked there anyhow.

I parked, used ATM and while I was using the ATM I noticed a Garda car in traffic going into town. Didn't think anything of it and then a week later got a parking fine.

Pretty sure you can't park on double yellow lines at any time. That's the point of double yellow lines!

Well, unless you put your hazards on!

    Completely untrue you say?

    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/1997/si/182/made/en/print
36 (2) A vehicle shall not be parked—

    (a) on that side of a section of roadway along the edge of which traffic sign number RRM 008 [double yellow lines] has been provided;

    But...
5 (2) (e) prohibition on the parking of a vehicle imposed by article 36(2)(a) shall not apply to a vehicle parked while goods are being loaded in or on to it or unloaded from it, for a period not exceeding thirty minutes from the commencement of the parking

As you can see my post is completely correct!!!!

I agree, provided no other restriction applies(which would include Clearway or solid white line and no doubt others.)

Unloading is not parking. The restriction for not stopping at all is a "clearway" sign which is an encircle red X.

I learned the same to be the case when I was learning the rules of the road 15 years ago. This and a single continuous yellow line meaning no parking during business hours. If not the case anymore the rules of the road must have changed since or else more worrying the rules of the road book I used at the time must have being duffeek.png

On a side note it perplexes me that people so often say 2 minutes when clearly the amount of time they are describing is longer, even the "literally 2 minutes".

it's pretty clear in post 13 that you and antodec are not correct.

Does it not apply to commercial vehicles only?

When I learned to drive many moons ago.... A single yellow line meant you couldn't park a tall, and double yellows meant you couldn't park a tall a tall.

I learned a little differently johnayo. A continuous single yellow line meant couldn't park there during business hours and continuous double yellow line meant you couldn't park a tall a tall as you put ittongue.png. This was in the Rules of the road book I learned from and no mention of the prohibition not applying in the case of loading or unloading goods from the vehicle.

I wonder how many other people out there do not realise that this exemption to the prohibition does not apply. I would guess the general public at large doesn't.

No you shouldn't just drop boxes and go, you simply can't stop on double yellow lines period.
