What do you do or say to yourself?

If you are 2 or 3 drinks and content, and you keep going even though you know it will lead to nausea and headaches the next morning

Pretty sure if youre having those converastions with yourself, you have a drinking problem. The odd time i drink too much but it doesnt bother me because i dont drink very regularly anyways

Do what I do. Just say " I don't want anymore, i've enough thanks ". Be firm.

Simple...just close your eyes and in one swift jolt you pour the remainder of your beer on your crotch!!

You have to go home then...right!

If you willingly walk into a situation that you may end up having to talk yourself out of it, then you have no business walking into it in the first place. Don't walk into it then you won't have to talk out of it.

Ah jaysus give it a rest. Plenty of people go for one or two after work on a Friday that turns into a monster session and a filthy kebab. It happens. Doesn't mean you have a drinking problem as had been suggested by others in here.

Anyway, on topic, I remind myself how terribly I handle hangovers. That usually does it.

I disagree. It's very easy to get swept up in rounds or lose yourself in a night out. Temptation for one more in a good night could simply be that. Temptation.

Cool the jets there cuz You've totally missed my point, I never said anyone has a 'drinking problem'. What I actually said was - If your like the the OP and your 'talking yourself' out of what you got yourself into, then that's altogether another whole problem unrelated to drink or whatever your having yourself.

I will absolutely have a stern drink to myself on the subject of not
having an extra talk. Modernisation is the quay.

What seems to be the officer, problem?

I just drink the same drink, so last week that was Margaritas and the next day I felt fine, but I know if I drank beer, I would be feeling sick the next day, so I just tell myself to stick to what I know agrees with my body..which includes wine.
Then I know in my mind when I had enough as I know if on my own that I need to get home safely, and there is always the next night out.

Yeah, I've read that post three times and and I'm still confused by it.

Edit: Ah, yeah, I think I get your drift.

Anyway - I usually can apply the brakes on myself before I have that fateful one that pushes me over the edge. Sometimes, I can't. I usually think about how utterly rotten I'm going to feel the next day.

I heard a quote somewhere,i think it was Dean Martin it was attributed to although i could be wrong, that having one drink is like jumping from the top of a skyscraper and only expecting to fall one floor.Obviously some people have more self discipline than that, not me though. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Well Ok look at it like this, If I walk into, lets say an acid trip, I can hardly 'talk myself out of it' two hours down the road, y'know? All that does is bring negativity, doubt and a general bad buzz into the equation what will ruin an otherwise enjoyable experience. Its the same for anything. If some people think they can't handle the ride or where it takes them or it even doubt they will enjoy the ride, then don't buy the ticket, which is totally grand too by the way

When I'm in a pub etc it's not too hard as I'm weary of the expense of being in rounds etc but when I'm at home, I'm pretty wreckless, I'll drink at a stupid pace.

If I want another pint, I get another pint. I never have to talk myself into or out of a decision. If I have at least 4 pints, I'll want to stay drinking till I'm kicked out though...

Having a bite to eat and a drink of water before bed can go a very long way in reducing any tiredness/fuzziness the next morning, once you haven't overindulged obviously.

Its that time of year again,i must hit the golf course (minus golf racquets) and wander around for a few hours staring intently at the grass, hoping to hit paydirt.

That can be my problem occasionally too. I know that tomorrow will hurt, but tomorrow is tomorrow, and it's now that I want the fun. Sure that tomorrow will be someone else's problem. What is important is KEEPING THE CRAIC GOING WHATEVER THE COST!

There is that moment that you know one more drink means you're out the whole night.

I usually only recognise that drink about 3 drinks later though.

Actually for me, leaving a pub isn't the most difficult part. It's when I'm home having a quiet drink, and suddenly the glass is empty and it's not even 11 and sure I only had one so far and I had a hard day and one more won't hurt.

I'm pretty good at talking myself into the drink then.

I think F. Scott Fitzgerald said it best:

"First, you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you."

Spoke from experience. He died an alcoholic in relative poverty at age 44.

    ****ing great writer.

I just reach my wall and I find that this drink just isn't going down nicely so I call it at that stage

Imagine your organs dehydrating and your skin shrivelling from the alcohol. Drink plenty of water too.

it's very tough. i always feel a bit down and nearly like a bit of a loser leaving the pub after only 2 or 3 when the buzz is there! that's why i rarely go for quiet pints and it's either go hard or go home. i don't go on the lash much so feck it

i never drink at home, never saw the point.

I only ever managed to drink responsibly when I was doing something I was interested in the next day. My ability to do this has deteriorated badly over the last few years. Life weighs you down. Attempting to quit seeing as I can't trust myself just to have one or two.
