Cleaning marble grave surround

I'm about to attempt to bring back to white a 30 year old marble grave surround which
has weathered to a dark grey.
Not too sure how to go about it. I know care must be taken with marble as its porous.
My thoughts are brillo pads with hot water.
    Unsure about cleaning liquids.
    Anybody got any suggestions

The only real way to do this is to let the professionals at it. I've seen people go st them with scrubbing brushes and bleach etc and they end up entirely ruined.
