I bought a tv up the north in Argos.
It’s Freeview ready. It wont pick up the Irish analogue though because its programmed to pick up UK analogue.
Is it possible to change the settings to pick up the Irish channels?

What is the model number of your tv? Also terrestrial analogue was shut down in Ireland in 2012.

Maybe I have it wrong but did saorview replace terrestrial analogue?

So if I have a saorview ready tv it shud pick up the likes of RTÉ n all without plugging anything into the TV.

And am I right in saying there is a uk version of saorview called free view?

I don't have the model number but it is a hitachi 32 inch smart tv.

You would need to connect an aerial to the tv.

Correct. The model number would be useful as it will allow someone to check what kind of tuner is in it. It should be written on the back of the tv.

Yes, Saorview replaced analogue terrestrial, 4 years ago last Monday.

Freeview is the UK's digital terrestrial TV service, their equivalent of our Saorview.

Use the Saorview coverage checker to identify your recommended transmitter - https://www.saorview.ie/en/get/coverage

Freeview HD is NOT the same as Saorview, though a Freeview HD set should decide Saorview but the LCNs will be wrong and the clock may be stuck at GMT all the year round.

A Saorview set will not decode Freeview HD (as the 2 systems are not the same).

Anyone who is not used to saorview and is buying a tv up north and want to use it in the south for rte without a set top box, just make sure the tv is advertised as freeview hd. This will work fine for rte stations through saorview as long as you connect the tv to a aerial.

It will if it has the necessary DVB-T2 tuner and most probably have at this stage. DVB-T2 has been mandatory for all newly approved Saorview receivers since 1st January 2013.

Not if there is an Ireland option in the setup which puts the channels in the correct order. Haven't come across any TV without an Ireland option. Freeview HD STBs can have these problems though.
