My 16 month contract will be expiring in November. During that 16 months my employer has been deducting PAYE, PRSI etc. and paying to Revenue. Prior to taking up this contract I was not in employment for approx 2 years as I was travelling. However, cumulatively I would have a lot of stamps accumulated over my working life - I am in my late 50's.
    My wife is currently working.
Question is am I entitled to any social welfare/dole? i will be actively seeking work post November but most likely there will be a period when I am not employed.

You need to apply at your local office. They will be able to tell you.
Bring an ID and proof of addresses.
You may have enough prsi paid to get job seekers benefit. If not assistance is means tested based on your wife's earnings.
