Hello, could anyone tell me if you need any qualifications for slaughtering jobs in abattoirs? Also is pay good and what are hours like? Is it usually early starts? And are you required to work weekends?
    Thanks, J.

Unless it's the only employment in your area, I'd be thinking there's something seriously wrong with anyone that has asperations of going working in one.

Minimum wage mostly. Long days and very little respect with plenty of abuse. Brother did it for a while when he was in a spot but not for long. Not ideal for most ppl standing in 4" of blood all day.
But a person gotta do what they gotta do when needed. One can do anything for a while. Mostly Brazilian & South American staff but they're ok.
Out of interest which one you interested in?

Pay is good, hours are shít, 5/6am starts until evening, every day will differ. You'll probably have to work weekends when the kill is high and won't be on a full week in summer.

A friend of mine worked in one for five years. He now is a very successful guy...guilt edge job and a good farmer. He said it was the best education he ever got and could judge any animal to a tee. He said although work was hard it was the best years of his life.

Then again not many as focused as this guy especially nowadays.

Fair play to him, where did he work? Was he required to work weekends ?
