There's a company I have applied for and I have got an interview coming up. There are other jobs I am interested in in other departments, is it the done thing to apply for multiple positions at a time or not?

Thanks smart arse. Just wondering if there is an etiquette and since I already have an interview if it is unacceptable to apply for other jobs but you knew that of course.

In a similar dilemma myself. One company had recently advertised a number of positions and there are two that I would be quite well suited to. The positions are in the same field but there is a very different emphasis in terms of the skill sets that are would be employed. If these positions were in different companies, the cover letters I would be submitting would probably look quite different but - given that the same person will probably be looking at my applications in this instance, I don't want to make them appear at odds with each other.

Any advice from anyone who has been in the same situation appreciated.

Been genuine there, applied for 4 different roles with a bank. 3 times not a peep, on the 4th, got a call the next day with a interview to follow, didnt get the job though.

Pro: May give an impression you really want to work for the firm.

Con: You may come off as desperate.

Depends on the company also, if it's a large company, apply for every one of them. The hiring manager for each position will be the only one reviewing and HR don't care, although they probably won't even be looking at them, especially if it's through a candidate manager system

This has happened in our place before OP. Thw recruiters view was if the applicant reached out and said ""Hey, I'm also interested in this role" they wouldn't see it as a bad thing, not at first anyway. They'd appreciate the heads up and talk through both roles with them, basically to find a fit and see which role they would want over the other. If they didn't get the job then they would look at the other role and see if it's worth sending them in (It was and they actually got that job).

The negative was if the applicant said nothing and just applied for multiple jobs. They said that's feel like the person wasn't really reading the roles and was just applying for the sake of it. One you communicate your interest you'll be fine.
