Battery draining in car

Battery draining in my car and I suspect it's my starter however I'm not getting the clicking sound Ive usually heard in previous cars where my stater has went bad. Would the battery draining mean it could be something else. Battery drained, put in charge all night, installed back in car then took a lot of turns to get it started. Drove car for few trips in town and next morning when went to start the car, kept turning key and trying to start until battery draining after 5mins of trying to start.

Any ideas what it could be

How do you know your battery is draining? It's more likely your battery is dying and you just need a new one...

How old is the battery. How long are the few trips into town etc. Battery is wear and tear. Average is supposedly 3 - 5 years but I usually get longer than that out of mine but my trips are mostly 30 - 45 mins on motorways - 30 - 65 k/ms etc so long enough to charge.

Charge it up again and do your normal driving, when done for the night disconnect the battery over night if it doesn't start in the morning it's your driving that's killing the battery. If all your trips are short you might need to use a trickle charger over night, otherwise you'll be burning through batteries.

Ok, so unlikely the battery is the problem (although you can't rule it out). Have you a multimeter? If so, start the car and measure the voltage on the battery while the engine is running. If it is significantly under 14V, your alternator is the problem

I had a similar problem with the same symptoms on an old pick-up I use. Neither a mechanic nor auto-electrician could find a fault. Eventually the persistence of a good mechanic (of this parish) traced it to the alternator & had it re-conditioned.
