VW Passat CC GT with DSG

Looking at a VW Passat CC GT this weekend. Anyone any experience with this car? It's a 2011 with DSG. 90K miles on the clock. Looks really clean and well maintained. So what should I be looking out for? I have heard air con can be a problem. Car has had no timing or water pump done, will probably need doing in the next 6 months or so. Pricey at 16.5K. Am I better heading to the UK or NI for one?

    Thanks
    Dinging.

I had a 2011 CC manual for 2 years. Air conditioning compressor can be an issue on VAG cars of that vintage so make sure it's working perfectly as a replacement compressor can cost up to €900. Timing belt and water pump is 100k miles or 5 years afaik. A cousin of mine has a 2010 DSG model and has had no trouble with it but check when the transmission fluid and filter needs to be changed on the DSG box as some versions need it done every 60k miles.

With the good exchange rate it is worth checking prices across the Irish sea as you might get a facelifted 2012 model landed for your 16k/17k.

Ouch €900 for a AC compressor, any tips to make sure its working as it should. Seller has confirmed a full service and all oils, filters and fluids replaced. I think this car is on the limit on the timing belt and water pump. Any idea of cost as to this fix. Saw this one, love the colour and the spec is good

    Decisions, decisions.

    Thanks again,

€900 would be around a main dealer price and may not include labour. Should be able to get it done by a good indy garage for a bit less. Best way to check it is to stick on all the settings, air conditioning should mean it's ice cold air coming out and the revs should drop when the compressor kicks in. Lift the bonnet and listen. Just be wary of sellers telling you that the air conditioning just needs re-gassing. Timing belt and water pump should cost under €500 to do and sometimes VW dealers have special offers on this work but again worth shopping around indy garages too.

The only other thing is that because they have frameless windows wind noise at speed can initially be noticeable.

Didn't yours need a new clutch and flywheel Baz - done in N.I.?

If you go to UK it will cost you 13.5k euros for the 170 bhp version, same mileage.

Yes some nice clean cars to choose from in the UK but with 4K VRT its still coming in at 17.5K all in so this one up the north is looking like a better deal than the ROI 2011 I'm due to look at.

Yes clutch, flywheel and gearbox were replaced by VW as a result of a gearbox oil leak. But as I said my cousin has a 6 year old example with no issues so it's not representative of them all.

It's representatitve of 50% of them in your experience surely? :D

It's got the same running gear as a regular Passat so what percentage of them have the same issue? If it was a widespread issue I'm sure the dog on the street would know of it.

I'd say they are no more prone to flywheel trouble than any other modern diesel.

Passats of that era are fond of rear wheel speed sensors, which is a slightly expensive job as you have to change the hub etc.

The CC's seem to be prone to rattly interiors alot moreso than the conventional Passat for whatever reason. Wind noise can also be an issue with them thanks to the frameless glass.

Those keys can be a bit flakey too, see if the buttons are hard to press.

Timing belt and water pump should be €450 at a main dealer.

VRT on the automatic DSG model a lot more than the manual version. But if the money adds up with VRT included then buying up North is the way to go at the moment.

The reason my clutch and flywheel were replaced was because the gearbox oil leaked onto the clutch plate and it began to slip. As a flywheel and clutch are wear and tear components VW UK would not have entertained replacing a clutch or flywheel free of charge if they failed through normal wear and tear.

VW introduced the Bluemotion engines in 2011 in the CC including the DSG version which had lower emissions.

Timing belt not 120k on the CC?

I was just going off comparisons on VRT website using their calculations. Automatic cars seem to pay a higher VRT rate.

A 2010 CC DSG had tax of €570 I think but the same car with Bluemotion from 2011 onwards dropped down to the next lowest tax bracket of €390 afaik.

Yep, my sisters 2011 CC GT is €390 per year. It's the 138bhp version.

I am going to see a 2013 registered CC GT 170 with DSG next week. Priced very keenly considering the year with 140K miles racked up in almost 4 years. Dealer says FSH, all done by Volkswagen main dealer, booked stamped. One owner from new. Timing kit done, receipts to prove it. I would be getting an independent inspection before parting with any cash. Dealer will provide RAC warranty and says car is immaculate. Any opinion on the milage considering the age considering it's done on average 35K per year.

Anyone any advice on what I should be looking for with a high mileage CC with DSG?

Check and verify the service history with the garages that stamped it.

There is still a clutch/flywheel used on the DSG versions so I'm not sure if they wear similarly to the manual version. DSG gearbox I think needs an oil change every 60k miles afaik so if there is no evidence of it done then budget to have it changed. Timing chain and water pump may also need to be done but again all this should be checked and verified with the garages who serviced it.

    Thanks bazz26,

Yes I will be taking nothing for granted and will check as much as possible what I am being told. Dealer says FSH but I will have to get this verified with the main dealer who carried out the actual services. I will also be doing a full Dekra vehicle inspection. This is a 201 point check and includes full HPI also.

Is there anything else I can possibly check?
