School access

Hi. I am looking for advice, last year our kids school finished an extension which is great. While that was going on we were told that a temporary access point would be provided. since the extension has finished that temporary access point has become the only access point into the school. The main entrance into the school where you could originally enter and walk around either side of the building to the yard has been closed to pupils so that the teachers can park within 20 feet of the school door. basically our school used to have 3 entrances and now it has 1. that 1 entrance involves walking up a very very steep footpath that also slopes off to 1 side. I know I could pull the principal up on this as the gradient is way out of limits but I don't want to be seen as causing a scene. you should see grand parents struggling up this path. I feel the main entrance to the school should be for the pupils and staff. Any advice as to how to approach this?

Is there a Parent's Council that you could take this up with? Personally I would talk to the prinicpal and say what you have said here. That the path is very steep. I would imagine it may not be the safest either for children who bomb along to school on their scooters...

There could be fire safety implications of the blocked entrances/exits - but it is definitely poor practice. There might be security issues, so you might need to offer support to the school - like a rota of parents to supervise these gates in the mornings.

We only have one entrance to the school open in the morning and it does not cause problems. We use three exits at home time, however. We have 5 fire exits- three of which are used to let children out when school is dismissed. By your post above, I'm not sure if you are worried lack of fire exits or if it just the use of one only entrance in the morning that is the issue?
