picked up a set of winter tyres for the smax, they are 205/55/16 91H going on 215/55/16 wheels, is that load rating ok for the smax, its gross weight is 2340 kg but can't find any weight recommendations for winter tyres.

Got this sorted, so this can be deleted.

Weight recommendations for winter tyres would be exactly the same as for summer tyres.

Vast majority of 205/55R16 are 91.
Only XL versions would be 94, so unless vehicle spec requires XL tyres (which I doubt) then I'm guessing your 91 winter tyres will be fine.

The S-Max, similar to the Galaxy is the large 7 seater. If I'm not mistaken they do require XL tyres. I can check on Monday but if I was a betting man....

From online recommendations the smax needs the tyres to be H99 rated, ie. 215/60R16 99 H XL

I dont know if I am prepared to put the H91 load tyres on such a big car, I will use them on my own and order the proper weight and put it down to lessons learned.

    I wouldn't be bothered by speed index H (210km/h)
If you get T index tyres (190km/h) you should be perfectly fine as winter's are not practical for higher speeds anyway.

But if it's 99 load index required, I definitely wouldn't drive it on 91 tyres.
Not for anything than city crawling anyway, and still would be worried about insurance implications.
You definitely don't want to be driving at 160km/h or more for prelonged times on tyres with lower load index rating.

    91's are rated for 615kg, 99's are 775kg.

Does look like 91 isn't going to be suitable for the Smax.
