Drill into the stump using a spade bit. Do a couple of holes. Get some C.A.N. (Calcium Ammonium Nitrate)
Pour it into the holes almost to the top. Then pour in some water. Cover and it'll rot down lively enough.
Then get an axe and knock the shyte out of it!

Where would you buy the product to kill it? A garden centre?

Would drilling a few holes in the tree and pouring in some Roundup kill a tree?

I have a few willows(?) that are an absolute pain in trying to keep from having branches break off and short out electric fence but I need it killed. 3 or 4 trees only but they need to be sorted.

I've tried herbicides, diesel, bark-ringing and putting loads of copper into the trunk, in an effort to kill a salix and the weed just kept coming. We took it out with a track machine.

I've found Grazon 90 to be good for killing juvenile willows but once the tree is established, it's the equivalent of a cockroach.

I posted this a while back and it is very effective method regardless of the size of the tree. Ive taken out some large poplar stumps with it.

I don't think polluting your own land with spurious chemicals or diesel is a good idea.

The living layer of the tree is a very thin green layer just under the bark. It is called the cambium and that is what you will want to kill to stop the tree growing.

Cut the stump off as low as possible to expose the most cambium, ie the biggest level circle you can make. Using the chainsaw cut a groove around the inner edge of the stump, as close to the edge as you can without cutting through the outer bark edit: or cutting through the cambium, about a centimeter deep.

Into this groove put Rootout, you should be able to get it at the co-op. This is the product I am talking about. It breaks down into nitrogen after a while so fairly safe to use. Edit: This is then absorbed into the cambium killing the tree. There is no point putting anything on or cutting into the dead wood of the stump inside the groove.

Wear gloves and fill up the entire groove all the way round with the rootout crystals. Cover the stump with plastic to ensure the rain dosnt wash the rootout away and weigh down with stones.

Repeat applications may be necessary, but this is a very effective method.

    Edit: Stump will biodegrade away.

This is an example webpage of the product Rootout only, i have not bought it from these people.
