Dry wall on top of cement render?

I'm working on a former inset balcony space which has been taken into a room. As in the balcony wasn't an appendage to the house but set within the outer wall, we've installed windows and plan on expanding the room which was adjacent to the balcony into the balcony space.

So the inner side of the now exterior wall of the house has an exterior finish as it had been exposed to the elements when this space was a balcony. This finish is cement render on a metal mesh. Does this have to be removed before I can put up dry wall or can I put up dry wall on top of the cement render?

What is the overall construction type of the property. Is it blockwork external? If so, I would imagine you could have an issue with lack of vertical dpc at location of new window. If new vertical dpc cannot be installed at line of new window, the outer wall which becomes an inner wall will always have a dampness path to the inside on top of being a cold bridge.

Yes external wall is block work. Do you mean I'd have to remove the cement render and put a damp proof membrane behind any new dry wall?
