The clutch on our Qashqai has started to slip, it's not doing it on every journey but I'm noticing it a lot more. Does this generally mean a new clutch is needed?

    Yes,and a flywheel as well.
Stay away from main dealers, go to a recommended indy.

Could this be the reason for the clutch slip, rear main crankshaft seal gone and oil leaking onto it?

They all drip like that, that one doesn't look too bad to be honest. You can take my word because I see them everyday.

At that age I've seen a few clutches go so you will need to budget a new one, fly wheel may be fine, you'll only know when the box is open.
Petrol models are a handy enough swap and diesels are a bit of a pig, keep that in mind for pricing, think by the hour.

Where is the oil coming from?

Exactly where you think, rear crankshaft oil seal, they seep really slowly and unless they get bad it's best to just clean it and leave it, they are a horrible job to do. Forward seal is fine to do but generally never goes.

They got pretty tiny clutches from factory so most of them need doing eventually, we get a lot of them in from 07-11 that are slipping, some worse than others.
From what I know, our garage (main dealer) is priced pretty competitively. Never hurts to get a quote. :)

ok Thanks, was worried that the oil was getting onto the clutch causing it to slip and that if it wasn't fixed that the new clutch would slip.

That's one thing you shouldn't have to worry about. :)
