Report or not?

We had two lads sent to the house by the property management company to service the gas boiler. I had my suspicions that they were not registered from the start as the company only has one registered installer listed on the RGII website and he wasn't present.

I asked them if they were registered and they fumbled through paperwork. I asked them if they had an RGII ID and one got quite angry and proceeded to storm off.

I contacted their boss and he was very apologetic and said this individual always forgets his id.

He called once again to apologise on behalf of the company.

My moral dilemma is do I report this company to the property company or RGII? I am also a little worried about retaliation as this one chap was quite aggressive and we are talking about his livelihood.

Did he carry out gas works in your house?

Tough one alright. But end of the day they're the ones breaking the law and endangering other people's lives. If it was me I'd report to RGII.

I agree rgi is best way to report. The management company rang around looking for the cheapest price. It looks like they went went with someone for 40 euro & all they will be interested in is the certificate rather than safety and quality of work.

It might be his livelihood, but it's your life if shody work is done...

People are obviously not educated to ask, they are probably going around servicing boilers with ease. They both acted like they were ignorant of the rules when I asked for ID. Their boss, on the other hand, claimed they did have ID but are "devils for forgetting them". Again, only one registered installer under that company name on the RGII website.

My wife reckons they will certainly know it was us and is nervous about reporting. One softer option she suggested was to ring their boss and give him a warning.

Just out of curiosity how would RGII investigate a claim?

A warning? I understand your situation but youre ringing a guy who knowingly sends out cowboys to service gas appliances. He obviously dosent care. They might be sub contractors. Search for the guys seperatley on the rgi site. They might not be listed under the company's name

Funny one of the guys actually said, "Don't worry, we will give you a certificate, this is all you need".

Yeah you are right. I don't know either of their names unfortunately. My plan was to report the company.

I wouldn't expect rgi to do much from recent experience.

A company installed a gas boiler, didn't commission it, refused to comeback and commission/certify. Reported to rgi. The company told rgi inspector that the work had been completed, certified and cert was left in property.

When rgi inspector went back and asked the company for cert number, they said they really just hung the boiler on the wall and didn't really install it. Wtf? Boiler was plumbed in, pressurised etc..

When the rgii inspector was queried about what cert the original installer had said was issued, the inspector said it was probably the invoice for payment???
Well I've never heard an invoice called a certificate!

The company were caught installing and not certifying work and lying to rgii, but nothing to see here :-)
