Would this be any good for an occasional DIY light occasional use?

Anyone recommend drill bits for it too?

Ah now its not that bad.
Fine for around the house, but not for everyday use.

no worse than B+D no better.

For the price and with the currency exchange rate this is quite good value, especially with two batteries. Don't expect to be drilling holes in concrete all day though.
As bilger suggests, Bosch DIY tools are not what they used to be, mostly plastic gearing which will eventually wear out but not rubbish either and certainly well able to cope with everyday DIY. Good bits are half the battle go to your local builders' providers rather than the DIY chains or supermarkets.

I have that very model 3 or 4 years. I paid about 140. I has seen a serious amount of use. Can't fault it. That is a good buy.

My B&D packed in this year after many years of use. I bought an Aldi as I don't do as much as I used to and it is sh!te. Tempted by this at €80 if you factor in Parcel Motel... Thanks OP.

Edit:Just checked and B&Q are doing same deal at same price. I'd save on P&P by going "up the road" to Damolly Retail Park, but thanks still for the heads up OP, I will probably still get it.

True, but after years of scrapping numerous cheapies, Bosch include, I have never looked back with Makita.

This Makita far better? Seem cheap at £67

    Linky

Got the Aldi one myself a few years ago. €39 but it was crap.

Both would be on par. I'd be a Makita man myself.

Milwaukee I think is top of the line stuff.

If anything I would go with a rotary action / hammer action drill and get an SDS adaptor. You'll never look back. But don't think you can get them cordless is the only thing.

    What's an SDS adaptor ?

SDS is a certain type of drill bit, the drill only accepts these and not 'normal' bits, if you get the adapter you can use normal bits. As below, bottoms are different.

I guess SDS bits are better then non SDS bits? I got the hammer drill this week the link of which i shared above, can i use sds bits in it or I'll have to get an adaptor?

    Afik no.
Only other way around. SDS drill that can take a normal chuck attachment.

Most of the traditionally professional brands have lower end stuff nowadays. It's not as simple as DeWalt being better than Milwaukee, or Bosch not being as good as Makita.

Anyone that's interested in what makes a good tool good, or the differences between a budget model and a professional, or the fail points of cheaper stuff should check out some videos on YouTube by a guy called AvE. the tear down videos are usually called "BOLTR" (bored of lame tool reviews)

The Bosch in the OP is €80 in B&Q at the moment, my dad has one.. for around the house it's perfect, I've been using it the past two weeks to stick an ikea kitchen together and it's been fine, battery lasts ages.

Same deal as OP at £68 but I use UK site as Damolly Retail Pk is nearer to me. (B&Q site is down now.)
