Things are chugging along in deiseville
but not at the pace of cork ,galway or Dublin , so what's driving these Celtic tigerish rents and house prices, a false economy or a cosy cartel?

Supply supply supply! Probably many landlords in negative equity as well, wouldn't surprise me if many bailed out of the market as soon as they can.

id have to agree with david mcwilliams et al, this tax rebate was just a reaction from the government by pressure coming from the building industry's lobbyists, and it will more than likely just drive up housing prices further. sadly i feel another bubble coming.

This particular break was entered in 2014 only , hold a property for 60 months
Cgt liability is reduced to zero ,don't know if vultures can avail of this too..

Jobs/employment drive rent and house price increases. We stopped building houses for 10 years but each year about 50-60k people leave home, usually in pairs .... as these people get jobs they seek housing. During the recession they emigrated or stayed living at home waiting for their independent live to start. Lower job creation in SE compared with the rest of Ireland explains the price recovery gap.

Multi-nationals employing non-nationals. 75% of their staff are non-Irish. Wait 'till Brexit kicks off and more companies move here.
