Being excused from Jury Duty after confirming attendance

I am looking for some advice on my options. I have been called up for Jury duty in 3 weeks, I returned the form confirming my attendance. I am quite happy to do my duty and attend, however it has since turned out that I am required to be in Germany for a business trip at the same time. The trip is really important and something I cannot get out of.

What are my options here? I've tried ringing every number I can find to try to speak to somebody in the courts service with no luck. I'm thinking my best bet is to write to them and include a letter from my employer.

I am able to attend the first day, would there be somebody there I could speak to if I just went in on the day?

Any advice appreciated.

Yes, get a letter from your employer detailing why you're now unable to attend and present it to the clerk on the first day.

They may reject your request to be excused - which is your employer's problem, not yours - but it's very unlikely they will.
