I have a field i want to get fenced, which is roughly square, and measured at 641 metres. Ideally sheep wire with a strand of electric on top.

Best quote ive got from a contractor coming from cork is 5.50 plus VAT per metre with 6 foot creosote posts and tinsley wire. FRS are a little bit higher unless i get the whole place done, then they will come down to 5.50 plus VAT, and theyll be using 5foot posts.

First question is, is this a reasonable price? and secondly, can anybody recommend fencing contractors in clare/limerick?

Doing it ourselves isnt really possible, so i realise im stuck between a rock and hard place

It would not be bad with tinsley and 6 ft posts. Just make sure posts aren't a mile apart

In my opinion 6m intervals is too much for Sheepwire. 5m is plenty.
Are both quotes at 6m intervals?

I've a similar fence here and we went 4m apart. I'd go to 5m but id be slow to go to 6m.

You did the right thing. You fence should be there in years to come and it's only five extra posts every 100 metres

Did our own fence here with tornado wire. 6ft stakes were used on the straight stretches at 4.5 meters apart. On slight bends 7ft posts were used and on more severe bends 8ft ESB strainers were driven into the ground or dug. If its a boundary fence your better off to do it the once and do it right

I'd be inclined to agree... 18 ft between posts seems an awful lot. Might ask for every 4.5 or 5 if we go with them.

    Thanks guys :)

Hi, was wondering could ye recommend any fencing contractors in Mayo/ north Mayo for h/t sheep wire fencing with 2 strands of barbed on top ? About 400 metres to be done along a ditch that has just being cleaned back with a digger. Tia. Homer.
