Trees growing close to ESB lines

Hi guys. Just looking for a bit of advise we have a few tall trees in the front yard. They are quite tall . The upper branches are starting to engulf the ESB lines over head.

My question is who is responsible for trimming them. Normally I would say me but the fact they are electric cables is making me question this.

    Any advise appreciated

You should contact the ESB. They will most likelywant to kill the power inthe overhead line while you are getting the tree felled.

Actually the ESB employ timber contractors for this very reason. All ESB lines in this country are patrolled at least once a year and if necessary they will trim the trees back to avoid branches hitting the lines. Usually if your around when the contractor is cutting the trees he will leave the timber for you to take away. If you are insisting on cutting them yourself you can apply to the ESB and they will arrange a site visit by one of there engineering officers who will take a note of what work need doing as they may have to switched line out for you to cut the trees.

Had that exact issue here and rang ESB, they sent two men to cut them back and they chipped all the dross and left the larger offcuts.
    No charge.

ESB regularly come into our garden to hack a few branches off a tree that grows under a power line. We never know they're coming until the tree is looking a bit lopsided when we come home form work :pac:

Their tree surgeon called in to us in August, left a leaflet to call them. Gave them permission to cut but haven't seen them yet.
These guys do a lot of the ESB work. http://www.conalstreeservices.ie/

I have a big Ash in my garden and it is fairly close to the ESB lines, the tree is dying, will they take the whole tree down or just trim whats near the lines?

Depends whats easiest for them. If they can't safely climb it or reach the branches safely by another method then with your permission they'll probably fell it.

If however the tree has no point within 2m of the line and can't fall across it or hit a pole then they may just say its your problem.
