I just purchased a dell t5500 motherboard, I have no idea what im doing.

Firstly what cpus are compatible with this motherboard? I have an i7 920
    (Since the sockets matched)
but im not getting any signal when I power up
(I am also using a single 4gb stick of ddr3 1333 non ecc)

I have looked around abit and have found no sources saying anything about cpu compatibility but everything thats recommend seems to be a xeon
(x or e) so I think swapping the 920 for a xeon would be the easiest choice for now.

Also am I even using the right ram? again I cant find any sources on compatible anything with this motherboard so a push in the right direction would help.

I am also using a standard atx Corsair cx500w, this is fine right (i dont know why it wouldn't im just checking)

Thanks in advance for any advice on this!

Dell boards are non standard (not ATX)
    Often proprietary PSUs
    You need Registered ECC ram
You need a 56xx Xeon from 2010 (A waste of energy at this point)

Go build a cheapo 4th gen i3 rig, itll serve you much better.

Oh no dont worry, I have a i5 2500 rig spare, and my main rig is a i5 4690k. I just want help getting this board working as I know nothing about these kind of boards. Also I have a dell xps 630i case that I have tested and just about the motherboard fits (and the stand offs line up)
Ill look into getting the ecc memory and a xeon (plenty for cheap on ebay)
I just didnt want to start buying stuff just incase what i already had was compatible

Try putting ram in slot 0, slot 1 , some motherboards need ram in 2 slots to boot up.even its 4gig slot o, 2gig slot 1.
    slot 0 and 1 may be blue, slot 3,4 , a different colour .
on my old pc ,looking from the cpu side, outwards ,
    theres slot 0. slot 2,slot1,slot 3 .
eg my pc will not boot with 1 stick of ram ,i need a least 2 , using slot o,slot 1.
or check the mobo Manual re ram install info ,

I agree it's a waste, the cost of the board and the xeon with ram, the fact that it won't fit in a normal case, etc all make it pretty much a total waste of money. You can pick up entire S1155 based-i5 machines, which are superior, for €150 on ebay. Even if you do get the Xeon and some ECC ram, what are you going to do with the board?

This is mainly just for abit of fun, its also more of a conversation topic aswell "hey whats in your pc?" "oh its just an i5"
but with this board "hey whats in your pc" "its dual 6 core xeons with 72gb of ram"
