i have decided on getting light green high gloss kitchen units from ikea, I was wondering what colour splash back for behind the hob and also what colour worktop? white is lovely but with a family of 6 would it get stained quickly? just would like a few idea's :)

Green sounds gorgeous!!! I have white gloss (north facing coldish kitchen) and love the shine :-)
We have white glass splash backs - and no issue with staining... only 2 of us though, so not a lot of serious cooking though. They look great after a year. Get the odd wipe down, nothing else needed!

Our worktops are melamine blue/grey mix, kind of an aged wood effect. Sounds awful but looks great - pretty clean and modern. Apart from granite, probably easiest to keep. Marble stains quite badly, I also looked at concrete and stainless steel - but apparently they mark very easily too. A light grey corian or white/silvery quartzite might work with your green?

Just something to be aware of with Ikea kitchen units, you will need to use a 63 cm wide worktop , which limits you to Ikea's own worktops or a custom made worktop as standard width is 60 cm
