    Hi all,

It's time to retire an old Renault Scenic and upgrade. I'm thinking of this
    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/renault/megane/used-2011-renault-megane-1-5-dci-dublin-fpa-2176430822728715099

I have year-old twins so between car seats, double buggy and everything else that goes with them we need space. The Scenic was a tight fit for a night away, but for something like a week's holiday it wouldn't manage really. The car is generally only used at weekends, I don't drive to work.

I have a budget of about €7,000 so the Megane estate just fits in.

Is this a good buy or would anyone recommend an alternative? I'll get a Motorcheck report done if it looks good at a viewing.

Megane is a good car. Keep in mind the rear seats aren't as accessible as they are in your scenic.
    Royale spec is quite basic.

Thanks, the spec doesn't matter to me so much as the reliability and running costs - the Scenic has turned into a money pit, I think over €2k on services and fixes over the last 14 months, and it's heavy on petrol.

The Megane has a clean Motorcheck report and it was solid on a test drive this evening, so I think I'll take the plunge.

They've got a decent reputation. Be aware that any car can cost a fair bit to keep on the road in a seemingly short period if things are not kept on top of, and preventive maintenance isn't done. Spending a big chunk on a newer car doesn't change that sadly.

Unless your taxying the car at the weekend I cannot see how fuel consumption would be a major deciding factor when the car gets little or no use the other 5 days a week.
