    Hi,

I’m looking for some advice on fixings to support the cabinets shown in the attached pic.

    view?usp=drivesdk

So the cabinets are approx. 17kg each (empty) and there are three of them. They are hung on a suspension rail which is fixed to the wall with a mixture of 110mm frame fixings and rawlbolts. A problem is though that the house is 100yrs old, so the brick is not the most solid behind it, although the fixings feel pretty good and there is no play in them. I’m just a bit uneasy at the thought of that much weight hanging over my head, especially when they have stuff in them, so I was thinking about supporting them in some other way and was looking for any ideas? I have two myself, but maybe someone would have a better idea or similar experience!

The first idea is to drill through the top of each cabinet and with a spring toggle and threaded bar fix them to the plasterboard ceiling above, just to give a bit of extra hold – spring toggles can hold a decent weight? Anyway, they will just be an extra support and not bearing the entire load.

The other idea is to mount a vertical piece of steel conduit from the underside of the front right corner of the cabinets directly below onto the surface of the desk that will be underneath. I will then use that conduit as a mount for a desk lamp and possibly a socket (so that it has a purpose for being there and doesn’t just look out of place!)

Any advice appreciated – hope this is the right place for this question!

    Thanks

Reposting your pic, it didn't work in your post:

I wouldn't use a spring toggle but if you can find rafters to screw into then I'd try that.

You could fill in the gap between the top and the ceiling with a bit of trim.

A length of 2x1.5" or similar directly underneath the units running the horizontal length and painted the colour of the wall. Same above (but on this length, attach to the cabinets also)
