Would I need planning permission to put two of those on the front facing side of our roof?

Nice question!

Automatic response is yes planning required as it materially effects the front elevation of the property.
You may get different opinions but at the end of the day, the LA will decide if planning is required or not and if that's after the fact it could land you in a spot of bother.

My advice is to lodge a section 5 application with the details of the light tubes and associated documentation and let the LA tell you officially.

4.—(1) The following shall be exempted developments for the purposes of this Act—
(h) development consisting of the carrying out of works for the maintenance, improvement or other alteration of any structure, being works which affect only the interior of the structure or which do not materially affect the external appearance of the structure so as to render the appearance inconsistent with the character of the structure or of neighbouring structures;

Just from looking at the picture supplied, and assuming not a protected structure or some such, then those roof lights would be ok with the above exemption, in my opinion. But as kc says, fire a section 5 declaration off to the council, €80 and answer in 4 weeks, but check local council website, for what info they want with such a section 5 application (declaration of exemption).
