Which router to buy?

My Netgear WNDR3700v3 is having a few problems and has been around for a long time now. Am thinking of upgrading but have no idea what is the latest and greatest router I can get to service my home.
I have a VM EPC3925 bridged and on their 240mbs bb. Have 3 Wi-Fi wall plugs in the house. Large number of devices (3 Xbox, 1 PS4, 2 laptops, 1 desktop, tablets, iPod's, PS Vita, Android phones and iPhones) need dual band.
What I love about the Netgear is how stable it has been and how strong the 5hz signal is.

    Have you any recommendations?

The latest and greatest is probably the Netgear Nighthawk but at £190 its got a high end price tag too.

C8 and R7000(Nighthawk) are roughly on par performance wise but the C8 is significantly cheaper. I was very happy with my old WNDR3800 but the premium wasnt justified.

Looks good for sure, just like the price tag. It might be be on offer during black Friday next month. Have put it on my Amazon wish list, so will get an alert if the price goes down.

Saw the Archer C3150 on Amazon which would be equivalent to the Nighthawk and a bit cheaper. I like the QoS on the nighthawk. Haven't had great experience with TP-Link devices before.

If you're going to that kind of money its also worth considering DLinks offerings.

Spotted the Asus Dual-band AC2400 on ibood today for €150. Is it worth it?

    If you're going to spend 150 on a dual-band, why not spend 30 more for a tri-band?

The Nighthawks are definitely a step above the rest imo

Amazon have warehouse deals on these as well

R8000 Nighthawk Tri Band for 154 sterling

I've bought from warehouse deals before and stuff has always been brand new (- and you get free supersaver delivery and a 30 day no quibble return)

Thought I'd jump in on this as I'm in similar situation to OP, however I have the horizon box.

    Considering getting an ASUS RT-AC3200

Has anyone had any experience with it? Seems like a solid choice?

I've been using an Asus RTAC68U for 2 years now and it has never let me down - one of the best bits of kit I've ever purchased.

I got the nighthawk r8000 in the end from Amazon. On my HTC 10, I am getting 185mb/s wireless speed and thats not even in the same room as the router.
Even in the attic on the 2.4 band, my son is getting 30mb download speed on his 4 yr old laptop.
My old Netgear was definitely dying. Since my speeds with the nighthawk are really good all over the house I won't bother changing my EPC3925 for the VM hub.

And don't forget you could potentially upgrade the wifi performance of the 4 year old laptop by adding a more recent usb wifi card.

I bought the Asus DSL-AC68U and while I've had problems with it dropping connection every week, even though it said it was connected, its a pretty good piece of kit. I've hopefully sorted with the issues now having worked with the Tech support team.
