250m radius on site location plan

Just a quick question, I was looking up a planning permission in rural Kerry and I noticed on the site location plan there was a 250m radius circle drawn with the site at its centre. i recall seeing it on other applications as well but I've never seen a reference to what it relates to? My only assumption is that it might be to show that the proposed site is within 250m of the homestead or something?

    just curious!

Probably to demonstrate that the site does not contribute to ribbon development, not more than 5 houses within a 250m radius.

I say probably as I don't submit to Kerry co co.

If it's not that, it's probably the radius of the explosion when the owner accidentally throws something he shouldn't had into the new stove!

Always fit big jubilee clips around the belly of the stove before you throw the aerosols in.....

    :p

Would the 250m radius not constitute 500m of road frontage in this case ??

Yes, but how else do you demonstrate it on a plan? except to show the distance on both sides of the site.

Distance to between houses which are visually linked?
House No 1 along the road frontage is the starting point for the 250m zone and not necessarily the proposed house for which planning is sought.

If I'm demonstrating that the site I'm working on is not part of ribbon development I will put the site as centre and show the area up to 250m around the site, I won't start at some ambiguous house, call it No.1 and start from there.

This tangent is all academic at any rate as we are only assuming that the OP's 250m radius relates to ribbon development.

Just to add to the above, I recently came across the 'Site Characteristic Form' which is submitted with a planning application. The form is located here

    Under section 3 it notes:

Surface Features within a minimum of 250m (Distance To Features Should Be Noted In Metres)

So that's what it could relate to as well
