Thai Airways - Safe or not

I'm travelling to Thailand next month. I've booked an internal flight from Bangkok to Phuket with Thai Airways, but now I'm hearing they might not be a safe airline to fly with!

I specifically avoided certain airlines I seemed to be unsafe and thought Thai Airways were ok, but now I'm not sure!

    Any idea?

Well they are not on the blacklist, and while low cost airlines* in that part of the world certainly don't have a good reputation for safety I have never heard any complaints about Thai. At the same time i have no personal experience of Thai.
I would do some research online, perhaps look at sources like Aviation Hearld etc. But they seem to be a reputable company

The odds of being in a place crash are something like 11 million to 1. You'll be fine.

Thank you. That was my thinking, that anywhere that part of the world the safety standards might not be as stringent but I hadn't heard any major issues with then, just one or two odd comments lately.

Looking at their fleet, it is not like they are flying an old, beat up hodgepodge of assorted frames. There's lots of 777's, with A330's, 350's, 380's and some 787-8's.

Their technical centres also handle service work for other airlines too, and are approved by the FAA, JAA and EASA.

I don't think there is anything for you to worry about flying with them.

It's not that I think anything is wrong with then, that's why I booked with them, but since booking one or two people made negative comments about them and I also read an article that was negative about them, although within that article all the comments slammed the editor for being wrong.

Thai airways are fine and as up to standard as any good airline. They have a nice modern fleet of aircraft. I was in the new airport in Bangkok a few weeks back and really astonished at the fleet on show. The only worry you would have is apparently occasionally their new nutter King likes to take the wide bodies for a spin. :-)

Thanks! I'm glad to hear it! That's what I thought when I looked at their website

A really good airline, I've used them twice recently on long and short flights. The long haul was similar to Emirates and the short flight was better than Aer Lingus or BA. Great service and free food and drinks on the short. You'll be fine

Completely different experience to Thai Airways!

Ironic you mentioning that crash, because my friend and I flew to Thailand in October 2007, and three weeks before we were due to fly, that crash came out on the news, we looked at each other and thought oh oh.

Flew 6 internal flights with them last year, no problems, friendly staff, clean cabins...

use of phrases like that would get you jail time in Thailand; even as a tourist.

I know, thankfully I'm not in Thailand right now. Wouldn't be saying it over there.
