    Hi lads,

Just wondering what courses we should play (and what to avoid) in the Marbella area? Bunch of 12 lads heading over for the Masters in April next year.

mixed bag of golfers handicap wise, so nothing super tough. Just courses which are interesting with good greens.

I played golf there 10 years ago (torrequebrada, rio real, alhaurin) and they were fine, but not sure whats there now and whats particuarly good?

    Cheers!

I've played a few over there.

Favourites were San Roque New and Alcadesia Links.

Played la Canada, alcadesia heathland, Almenara but would rate them lower than the above. Buggy is a must for the links course

thanks for that. I played San Roque old one of the time I was there and it was excellent. I was enquiring more about courses like Marbella Country Club, Atalaya old, Santana and the like, those kind of mid range courses close to Marbella.

Was there a few weeks ago and played Santana and Atalaya old & new.

Santana and Atalaya Old are fine courses for a mixed group - not too challenging but not mowed fields either - stay away from the new - crazy golf in some holes.

Have a look at Santa Clara. Not a bad course. Played there about five years ago. It was in good nick.

We have a trip each year in Feb, we try to keep it as low cost as possible without playing ****e.

We play Santana on Day 1, Rio Real on Day 2 and we finish on Santa Clara. They are not world beaters of courses but fine enough to be fun and affordable. So far they have always been in good condition.

I was over there a few weeks ago and played Marbella Country Club, the oddest front nine i have ever seen. I would not recommend it at all.

    Lads, thats a great help.

I think the plan is to play a couple of half decent courses and then maybe play san roque on the last day. Santana and Santa Clara/Rio Real look like decent shouts!

Los Naranjos is a nice course and usually in good condition as well. Valle Romano is another that I have played in the last few years and it was a good course and a bit more challenging that some of the courses over there.

Santana is a very good track, and one of the flattest in the region (which makes it walkable).

Los Naranjos is pretty tidy too. You have to cross a few roads here and there but it's a good layout and pretty fair.

All of the La Cala courses would fit the bill. None of them ore outstanding but they're all fun and well maintained.

    Oh and avoid El Chapparal.

I see you've played theme park golf in Albhuarin previously. I'm not a massive fan of that course but its madness has a certain charm and an outstanding backdrop.

El Chapparal is more of the same, except you're playing in the middle of a housing estate, and as such is without any charm.

great stuff....looks like we will go with santa clara and either valle romano/rio real. What you guys think?

the prices in april are not cheap, you're looking at probably €200 each for two rounds with buggies. It would break your heart.

The two best courses we have played in the area are Atalaya Old and Santana and Mijas Oliveros

I said two but meant three courses

Just recently back, we played 4 courses got the 4 with buggy for €300

    Cabopino, Elchaparal,El Pairiso, Calanova

The only one which I would avoid is El Chaparal didnt like layout and the greens were in terrible condition.

Does anyone know if there is any options for last minute tee times in Spain. Heading in April and if the numbers were good, I'd book and play last minute. Already playing santa clara.

Doesnt seem like there is any websites online trying to fill timesheets.

I used https://www.justteetimes.com/ before but you have to book within 3-4 days, they dont allow bookings within two days I think.

Also this year I used http://www.elitegolfservices.com/. They booked 2 rounds (Alcaidesa Links and San Roque New) for cheaper than I could get them.

You can of course go direct aswell but its usually a bit dearer.
