Interview Attire

    Hi

I'm going to be interviewing for software development internships soon, and I'm wondering is it OK not to wear a suit. For any retail jobs I previously had I wore slacks, shirt, and a pull over jumper along with black shoes. Would this be OK in industry.

I don't have a suit, and I can't drop the money on one either.

Slacks shirt and tie will do you.

Depends entirely on the company- for an interview I always try to dress up- rather than simply ape what is worn day-to-day in the company in question.

General rule of thumb is to dress up a level for the interview.

    Agreed.

A level, though, and not OTT. So if the company is a jeans and runners type of place, then casual trousers and a shirt is good. If its a suits kind of place, then suit and tie is good.

That said, it's an internship. They know you're close to broke, and probably won't judge you for not affording a suit at this stage in your career.

So be as well dressed as you can, but don't stress.

Thanks everyone. I'm not going to be wearing jeans and runners. Slacks shoes shirt and tie sounds like the way to go.

Perhaps try and borrow a suit? If not, go with the above.
