Hi All . I hope someone can answer the following for me .
    I have a 07 Vectra 1.6 litre life model .
I got the timing belt changed recently but I notice the window spray is not working as good . When it was done they said that it did not need to be done as it wasn't linked to it and did not charge me for it. Now I am getting the feeling maybe that they ran out of time to change it and just told me that in didn't need to be done
Anyway what do you guys think.
    Thanks for any replies
    Ste

Windscreen washer is not related to the timing belt and water pump.

It has its own separate pump.

    OK thanks
So is it just coincidence that this is not working as good?. It takes about 10 seconds before the water reaches the window. I don't think this is normal as it was perfect before I got the TB changed

Probably just a little filter where the pump goes into the washer bottle blocked.

Hi stoolbend are you sure it has a separate pump I did a Google and it tells me it's part of the whole timing belt area .
    Cheers

100%. The water pump is used to drive coolant from the engine into the radiator and back into the engine.

The windscreen washer pump is an electric pump which is separate from the water pump.

Your engine most likely is the newer 1.6 engine(Z16XEP), which has a water pump which is driven by the fan belt. It is not necessary to replace it at the same time as the timing belt. The older engine (Z16XE) drives the water pump with the timing belt so you should change it when changing the belt.

Also as said above, this pump is for pumping coolant around the engine and does not have anything to do with the washer jets.

OK thanks I'll have it checked as it is screaming for spray then after 10 to 15 secs only small spurts come out. I have nct in 2 weeks so just want no problem with it. Is this an easy check or garage check thanks

It's an easy fix if you can get under the car. If you look at the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir you will see a small electric pump with one or two small pipes (saloon or hatchback). This just slides out of the reservoir and has a small rubber seal/filter that may come out with it or stick in the bottle. Take this out and clean it. Then refit seal and then pump. Don't lie directly underneath when removing unless you want a shower.

Cheers thanks for that I'll prop it on axle stand and see if I can avoid the waterfall

Is there anything in the windscreen washer bottle? By the way you have described it, it sounds like its empty.

    No its full alright
I lifted car and pulled open the bottom valve water dripped out there didn't seem to be a filter
I used a pin to see if it would clear and blockage and tried it again . Flows a little better but still screeches for a few seconds. I'm thinking dirt got down the water bottle and is blocking a bit . It sounds as if the water is not staying in the tube to the sprayer and has to travel a bit maybe that's the screeching. What do you think. Stephen

And be very very sure it is the washer bottle you are opening and topping up... you don't wanna open a hot rad or pour sudsy water into your expansion tank or oil cap...

It's the watter bottle indeed I'm opening
Does this water bottle only feed the screen spray?

Windscreen jets, rear windscreen jet and headlight washers if applicable.

    Separate to engine coolant.

I'm assuming you pulled out the small electrical pump. If so, the water should have poured out. It sounds like a blockage. Sometimes if washing up liquid is used as screenwash it can congeal in the bottom and cause a blockage.

Hi Pablo I just pulled off the connector that attaches to the black valve .this is at the bottom of the tank This valve is plastic.
The water just dripped out .
Do I just pull this off or twist.
    What do you think?

I genuinely don't know how it comes out on that model. Usually I use a large flat screwdriver to prise it out from the rubber seal.

If you google 'vectra c washer pump removal' , you will get a ton of info from owners forums etc.
