Ryan Burnett defending his bantam British title against Ryan Farrag.
Interesting bout for Burnett, it should shed light on how good he is. Farrag is no mug and so far in the first he has landed at least three clean rights over Burnett's left.

It's shaping up to be a very good bout.

Three rounds gone and it's close. Hard to score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Much more impressive from Burnett in the fourth. Some classy bursts and landing cleaner than before.

Not sure was it a knockdown, did the ropes save Farrag?

    Tasty fight.

Quality from Burnett in the fifth. Really upped the ante there and looks classy.

First time I've really been impressed by Burnett. This is what the fuss is about.

What a great display. Boxing aesthetics at its finest.

Very enjoyable fight and Farrag deserves great credit for hanging in there.

A few questions answered for me about Burnett. I've never thought he was a big puncher, but he's sharp and physically strong with a nice variety. Not unlike Carl Frampton in lots of ways.

Burnett has great dynamism and a real spark about him...

Derry to get a shock KO?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

I don't know about Derry's KO chances. He certainly can punch, but I expect Campbell to be aware of the threat and box to instructions and take a clear UD or maybe late stoppage.

Campbell still has work to do, but even early in his career that left uppercut/bolo to the body has always been a terrific punch.

Always good to see somebody from MGM on the ground :)

That stupid 'Campbell flurry' on the ropes!

fairly poor atmosphere in liverpool for Bellew.
    ****e entrance

Bellew should be winning this early. Flores is a disgrace of an opponent tbh. Pure cash in before Bellew faces his mandatory.

Yeah Tony, the usual 'hold me back' shyte in front of Haye, who would knock him into the middle of next week if they ever fought.

Would pay to see him v haye, on Joshua v klitchko card would be ideal

Should fight a half decent opponent next. Briedis is the mandatory but looks like he'll try and duck him for Haye. Doubt he'd ever fight a guy like Lebedev, Drozd or Usyk.

Wouldn't say I like him, but he has a point regarding haye's last fights. He shouldn't really be talking about where titles are going because he's done nothing to deserve a shot....yet.

Bellew vs Haye eh? I normally would cheer for someone but I can't think of two more dislikeable characters

Yeah Bellew is bog average but Haye hasn't beaten a credible opponent in over 4 years.

    Would it be interesting? Certainly
Would I pay for it? Absolutely not

He has a point about Haye's opponents but he's being a total hypocrite given the fact he's just fought Flores in a pure cash in. Farce of a fight.

Must me music to Haye's ears this. Has there ever been a boxer who's made millions fighting plodders like Harrison, Chisora and Bellew? Three easy wins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,373 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Bellew would last as long as Haye wants him to last. The fight won't happen unless Bellew comes to terms with him getting decimated from it.

Haye would murder any CW, and Bellew is at best scraping the top ten.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,373 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Why didn't they give Haye the mic to respond to Bellew's pathetic rant?

Bellew clearly doesn't want the fight. Near the end of his rant he alluded to the fight at CW. Haye never makes CW again.

Haye really answered Bellew perfectly when he said how easy a night's work it would be. One hand. He's spot on, as well as really thrashing Bellew as a credible opponent.

No he wouldn't. Haye is old and hasn't a decent win in years (Valuev in 09 probably his last). Haye isn't exactly a big HW either. Usyk would take him imo. Huck would have a very good chance too as he arguably beat Povetkin at HW

With all due respect that is nonsense. Haye is not the best HW, but he's more than capable enough, as well as clearly bigger than CW to destroy any CW. It's circa 25 lbs he has on them. Usyk would be flattened... As would the smaller Huck. Golwacki stopped him..

I am always a bit amazed at how poorly rated Haye is. I wouldn't really be a fan of his. I don't like his boxing style nor his personality. However, people often underrate his boxing ability. He owned the cruiserweight division, took out Valuev, went twelve with Wlad, and KO'd Chisora.
I would give him a very decent chance against most current heavyweights & I would certainly be watching it.
    As for Haye v Bellew?
Bellew's chin is too easily found. Bellew only thinks he was hit hard when superman connected. It wouldn't be great for his health.

The crusierweight division was shocking then to be fair, Enzo Macarenelli was to unify the division! Haye for me is a huge huge disappointment. He talks so much but has fought nobody apart from Wlad and got easily beaten then. Beating Chisora is not something I'd be bragging about. I do think Haye has huge talent, speed, power and excitement but for all that he has still fought nobody apart from Wlad. He has conned the public with sham fights for a long time. It's time for him to start fighting decent opposition or just retire again.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you have said. Haye has been & will continue to be a pain in the a**e. Chisora is a plodder but he can be difficult to put away.
Haye did well to get the Valuev & Wlad fights, & if his toe wasn't injured he would have beat Wlad.
He does need to step up. I wonder is he being avoided?

I know styles make fights and all, but Povetkin couldn't knock Huck out and IMO he's better than Haye. Also, its not like Usyk would fight 25 lbs less. Hes got more than enough room to put on muscle and fight at the higher weight class. Same height as Haye and is an Olympic HW champion. Haye ain't Klitshcko or Joshua size so is easily doable

Povetkin was never a killer puncher like Haye.

I was more basing the CWs now against Haye. As in not going above CW to face him.

Ok, they move up to face him. No, I see nothing from Usuk yet. Would he take a clean shot from Haye? Right now not a chance. With extra lbs maybe. As an Olympian he was still sub 200 lbs.

Lebedev has no hope no matter what he weighs. Too small.

CW is good. But not good in the sense that any are future HW talents or champs.

I'd agree on Lebedev. Love him as a fighter but too small to move to HW. The bigger CWs could go and fight Haye though. Usyk is the best shot as he's at the upper end of Cruiserweights, and has a body that could pack on another 15 pounds of muscle and fight well at HW. His speed and footwork would match against prime Haye never mind the current version, so I think he'd have a great shot at beating him.

Huck has fought at Heavy and is used to taking punches from big hitters, and I think would at least last with Haye. Outside shots of Dorticos and Gassiev who are both big cruiserweights and look capable of adding enough weight on to them to compete at Heavy.

I'd agree that if you just took one of them and put them against Haye and didn't close the weight gap, it'd be a bit lopsided but some of the bigger guys could definitely narrow the weight gap to a guy like Haye.

Fwiw, I never really rated Haye as a heavyweight, and he's past it now

I think the bigger issue was the 6'6 Ukrainian in the ring with him, not his toe.

No doubt. Haye was outboxed. It wasn't meant to be a serious post on my part. i was hoping folks might see the comical side.
