Few days after the budget the realisation that TDs are getting given 5000 per annum more in their salary. As a nation why aren't we giving this more attention,

    Are we too soft?

It won't be protested as it won't have any impact on those that do most of the protesting (the unemployed). The same way the property tax wasn't protested but the water tax was the worst thing to ever happen to the country because those who pay no tax would suddenly have to pay something

The habitual protesters aren't paying for it, so they couldn't care less.

Plenty will scream about it online but wouldn't be bothered actually doing anything about it.

Personally, I have more important things to occupy my time. In the grand scheme of things, it matters not to me.

That's pure rubbish. Most of the protesting is not done by the unemployed, it's done by hard working tax paying individuals who feel it necessary to make government aware of our dire moneyless predicament.

The property tax was heavily protested both by marches all over Ireland and by acts of civil disobedience by refusal to pay the charges. The only way it has been possible to collect the amounts they have done is by deducting it at source.

    Check your facts lad.

So you missed all the protests against the household charge? Surprised, they were covered by a wide variety of media. When the government handed collection of the charge to Revenue and allowing for Revenue to dip into banks accounts/wages/ welfare payments it quashed the protests.

Isn't it part of the overall pay restoration as part of Huffington road? New teachers since 2011 will be getting increases of over 6000 in the next 15 months or so as part of this, was on the last word during the week

It was originally part of Haddington road, but then became conditional on public/civil service jumping into Lansdowne Road. ASTI teachers said no as it broke the deal and reneged on promises made.

    Sooo. Yes there are protests..

    By teachers (ASTI only).

    Hurrah for teachers....
