I recently imported a 10 year old tractor from Netherlands.I did not get log book with machine and when I enquired from seller re same he told me that tractor was never registered and that he has no log book. The authorities here tell me that in order to register tractor here it will have to do VRT.I cannot do VRT without log book .Can anyone give me guidance

They don't register tractors in the Netherlands all you need to reg it is the chassis number.

How does that work. Sounds very interesting. Do you have to prove it came from Holland because in general, they won't look at you without reg cert.

I was informed that if I cannot get reg. cert (log book) that a certificate of permanent exportation from Netherlands may suffice but I believe that this cert is only issued by dutch authorities if log book is lodged with them first.I always thought that vehicle log book was akin to a childs birth cert. Can the tractor manufacturer issue a new replacement log book.I would love if the chassis no. would suffice but the VRT people appear to want paper

If you go to a main dealer of the make of tractor you have imported, ask them for a letter detailing the year/ engine type and size and stating that tractor has not been previously registered in this country, that should suffice for revenue, i did this a few years ago and i worked fine, dealer will have a small charge for this, but if it sorts out the situation its well worth it imo!
