Broken Electric Oven

    Hi all,
My sisters oven broke a few weeks back and looking to fix it myself, just looking for a bit of advice on this. Theres a part on the side of the oven (inside the oven) that looks like a thermostat or temp probe, just wonder am I right in assuming this (can I add photos to these forums?).
Basically I think a tray touched off this probe and caused the circuit breaker to trip as well as a loud bang to come from the oven, now the oven wont heat up. Wonder has anyone seen this issue before?

You won't be able to add images as you have only a few posts. However if you add some spaces to links so they don't look like URLs you can host an image somewhere else.

The oven element would be my first thing to test, should be able to remove from front. Rusty screws might pose problems. I changed an element in a built-in fan oven recently, removed a panel inside covering element and fan to get access. A multimeter across the element terminals will tell you if its open circuit. I think on the new one I put in the resistance was a few hundred ohms. A new one might be 30euro.

If the element seems OK, then look at the temp sender and the switch.

It's nearly certain to be element as other poster has said. It won't be temp probe. It will probably be element which goes around the electric fan (I'm assuming it's a fan oven). Even without multimeter you may be able to see where it has shorted and failed as it will be like a little eruption on the surface. Be extra careful to make sure you have electric supply fully isolated.
You will most likely have to slip temp probe to one side and remove back panel. Element will be a double or triple coil around fan held in place with 1-3 screws. Once loose pull off electric spade connectors being careful they don't disappear back into hole they poke from. Put a tie wrap on them temporarily to make sure they stay put if in doubt but don't leave tie wrap once you get new element . Get new element online or many local electrical stores may have one. Refit is just the reverse of above. But make sure power is isolated !!!

    HI,
Ya its fan assisted and the heating element would be the most likely as ye say. Ive gone through a few websites that store parts for appliances, I still cant find the part that looks burnt and also looks to be broken inside the left wall of the oven(when I say inside I mean I dont need to disconnect anything to get to it, its just along the wall and you can see it when you look in the door) and its bugging me ;).
Ill just take it apart the next day and measure with the multimeter. When you say electric supply fully isolated do you mean just turn the mains off or just turn the switch off for the oven?

Switch off at oven (wall switch) and switch off breaker for oven at main board. Is the fan not in the back wall of oven ? PM me a pic if u want-not sure what would be damaged on side - what model oven is it ?

Just checked the continuity today on the element and got nothing. Ordering a new element now. Can get them very cheap on ebay (roughly 10 euro) but not sure what quality the element is. Thanks for the advise.

I had a belling oven and managed to change the elements twice in the oven and both sides of the grill oven. Was great being able to do it myself and parts were cheap enough, but guess they don't last as long. To be fair though, they got a good bit of use. eBay and Amazon got me sorted for parts. There was a model number at the hinge door. Just put that in followed by element and voila

Ebay is a great spot for parts alright. Should open a parts store for appliances. Had to also source a broken hinge for a washing machine. Could order it on spare parts or parts.uk also but both would not have the part available till January. Got a hinge from a spot in Dublin, 32 euro, probably cost a fifth of that to make...
