I'm thinking of getting an early-mid noughties Clio 182 in the UK. Any thoughts or advice? I had a little Clio van when I worked in France and really liked it. Tough little machine with bags of character is what I'm looking for. I like small cars but like dependability too. I hear they're pretty reliable and it'd maintained well but anything I should know about?

Belts have to be done on time and with the correct tools. Make sure this has been done it's a expensive job.
Driveshafts are weak and expensive to replace.
    Exhausts rust through
    Exhaust hangars are crap.
Make sure they have the modified top mounts otherwise you get a crack in the steering when turning at low speed.

If your getting one try get a full fat or a trophy. The cup versions are a poor spec for road use.

I'd go with a suzuki swift sport myself in that category, lovely little thing to trash around. Might not be found in the same price bracket though... anyway just a thought.

Wouldn't be anywhere near as good as a 172/182

Wouldn't have half the power though no?
