    Hi,

A family member has an issue. Due to the nature of his profession he will occasionally get temporary work in the UK.

How can he get a national insurance number without a a UK address? He has hit a brick wall with HMRC. They claim he cannot get one without an address? He has already done a few days work, for which he cannot get paid for without the number!

Surely he's not the only person who works in the UK on occasion without being resident.

    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.

Why is it so hard to do? Surely there are loads of people who live in Ireland bit work in the north. How does it work for them?

    Good morning!

Before I moved I was told that you needed to be resident in the UK before applying. (I rang the Belfast office)

On arrival just ring one of the numbers here and an interview will be arranged at a job centre. They will need to see proof of employment.

They obviously need to check each person as an NI number grants you access to social welfare services and the health service.

Feel free to PM if you need more help.

    With thanks,
