Dishing out free advice

Just wondering what people think of the advice requests on the forum and how fair it is to the whole competition.

When I started using the forum last year most of my questions were about the tactics of the game rather than what players to buy.

So I was trying to glean the advantage of playing 4-4-2 over 3-5-2 etc. Also if taking a -4 or -8 was a worthy move and so on.

I've noticed a lot of posts now just list their team and what money they have itb and that's it. The request being - can you pick my team / transfers.

I suppose I'm wondering how much this dilutes the quality of the competition. Surely a basic knowledge of players and teams is the least you'd expect from somebody playing the game. Is it fair to have somebody with, no basic knowledge, sitting in the top 100k just because they use this forum?

Must be real frustrating for some managers to be sitting 3rd or 4th in their local/work leagues when they know the leaders know feck all about the game.

I've stopped giving advice now unless the post itself indicates the poster knows what they are talking about but are struggling with the final decision.

I also think that vague requests dilute the general quality of posting.

There are almost 4m players in the game. I really doubt giving advice affects the overall score of good players.

The fact that people turn into this forum for advice means they are serious enough about the game anyway.

Also we are often wrong and simply following other posters won't make you a winner.

This forum is just one of sources for fpl, and it's always good to have a bit of banter with other players.

I don't see any issues here, some of us are in the same money leagues and it doesn't stop us from posting what we are about to do :)

I think you have a point, about the "post the team" idea. I only ever reply to people who suggest their own move and are looking for confirmation that they're not stupid, or have missed that the player is about to get suspended or something.

Posting a team and asking for advice you'll just get the buy Antonio/Capoue/Sterling/Sanchez or whoever this week's vogue player is.

Yeah I'd agree. There's a lot more worth in questions like Defoe or Deeney, Firmino or Mane. Actual conundrums. I'd generally suggest posts that basically say 'here's my team, what should I do' should be ignored outside of the rate my team at the start of the season and wildcard threads where people post drafts looking for feedback on their actual choices, rather than asking you to make the choice for them.

But have you seen that many of these posts?

I felt posts listing their team and cash ITB were doing so to give context to the question and help anyone give a better suited answer.
Very often 50/50 choices imply other 50/50 choices elsewhere to accomodate your squad cash-wise. E.g. Firmino or Mané could go with Lukaku or Costa, or Baines or Williams, or Koscielny or Baines, etc...

I think people listing their team and asking what to do would get a better responze if they put more work into it i.e. list their problems, who they want in, their possible strategies -- and then asked which strategy is best.

There have definitely been a quantity of posts (no real need for us to bicker over how big or relevant that quantity is as we could be here all night) just posting their team and asking what they should do.

Ah right and yeah we're not gonna come up with our own number for this :pac:... Considering I've taken mini-breaks during both international breaks and am generally in late conundrum panic mode come the week-end I may have skipped them inconsciously even if I did see them :p.
