Re-connection Question - Capacity Requirement

I have question about re connection on a house. We are in process of having ESB reconnect house with electricity.

The house previously was on a 16 kVA Maximum (Standard) double meter - this was due to the fact they had electric heating. However we are removing electric heating and replacing with oil central heating.

When reapplying we were told that we could reconnect again with the 16 kVA Maximum (Standard) but the 12 kVA Maximum (Standard) seems to be the more average system and we will not be having electric heating, etc going forward.

Is there a big difference between 12 kVA and 16 kVA? Are there any disadvantages/issues with this?

Absolutely clueless when it comes to this so just want to make sure we're doing the right option. Any advise or help would be really appreciated. Thanks :)

If you have oil heating you won't need the higher capacity.

Unless they are charging you extra for night rate that you are not using then there's no real disadvantage.
