Thinking of getting this as I suffered with a real bad flu last winter.
Hearing stories of people having side effects from it and don't know if true.
Anyone get it and have side effects like swollen arm or cold symptoms etc??

Sorry mods could you put this in the correct forum please.

Getting flu like symptoms after any injection is common, I had a mild cold after my Meningitis jab last year.

You could mention it to your GP next time you are in for something else, ask about side effects then decide to get it or not.

I got mine about 4 weeks ago, arm was a little sore after , but that was it.

I've gotten it every year for the past six or seven years. I will have a slightly sore arm afterwards (the same with any injection) but that is all. I had the flu one year too and I'd take the vaccine over the real thing any day.

Same here: A temporary sore upper arm, unaffected otherwise. Serious side affects are possible but rare with most medications including standard painkillers; concentrating on the rare/sensationalised/this-one-guy-I-know cases is unwise when the odds are overwhelmingly in favour of you experiencing nothing to minor side effects which are worth putting up with if the flu is a worse concern.

Usually have a sore arm and mild cold after getting it. But having had the flu quickly followed by swine flu two years on the trot I'll take the mild symptoms any time!

Felt fluey for 24 hours after my jab. Nothing a few paracetamol didn't help with.

Must get this sorted myself. Can't remember symptoms from the last time I got it two years ago.

Got both the flu and pneumonia shots this week and apart from one arm being a little sore there were no other side effects. Does anyone know how effective the pneumonia jab is? I honestly didn't know there was a vaccine for it until the nurse recommended it for me.

This year's flu vaccine is expected to be around 60% effective. It vaccinates against 3 types of flu selected from this year's potential crop by the World Health Organisation.

The adult pneumonia vaccine protects against 23 strains of infection and is thought to be around 50-70% effective at preventing more serious types of pneumococcal disease.

I got the information above from the HSE website.
