Intermittent broadband with Eircom

    Hi Guys,
I have an elderly relative who has Eircom broadband which is intermittently crashing. She has had Eircom out on several occasions and been told that the line is ok but it continues to crash.

This afternoon I took a screenshot of the modem log and it looks like this:

    Sheila%20modem%20error%20log.jpg

The item at lines 37 & 38 ( call terminated, ADSL down, possible reason SEF (severely errored frame) has come up frequently in the last few days. Anyone know what might be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Bluezulu49

Looks like classic intermittent sync, post the line stats to confirm.

Sorry do not understand this. How do I go about getting this info?

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

If I remember correctly its in the statistics section on the left in the above screenshot.

You're looking for values like Attenuation and SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio).

    Stats below

Distance to exchange less than 500 metres but likely to be direct to exchange.

Yeah, its fluctuating. See how it was at 7.1Mb (the exchange side maximum) but in the second screenshot it was at 5.4Mb which meant the quality went wayyyy down, then came back up as the margins aren't low.

As they're elderly, panic alarm/medi alert/phonewatch/ancient old phone unit? Any of them can be prime suspects for problems like that and they arent the Eir techs responsibility.

After that you need to pester them then go to COMREG.
