    Hi All

Just wondering if there are any alternatives to fitting a fan in our bathroom as having a little damp issue there with steam from the shower. I can't fit a fan the window and the walls are over 2 foot thick with granite outside. I also cant go up or down or out into hall space.

Was wondering if anyone every had this issue and how to resolve it, was thinking if I could get a wall mounted dehumidifier which came on with the light and this could be linked into the waste. But never seen anything like this.

    Any suggestion would be great.

I assume you meant "I cant fit a fan in the window" but would you not consider something like this:

    Hi Exaisle

The bathroom is on the ground floor facing into our entrance parking area, it has a 2 x 3 foot clear double glazed window fitted with timber shutters which are closed for privacy. Fitting a window fan means changing the glass and not sure what to do with the shutters as they are mounted onto the window frames and match all other windows on that side of the house.

The area is fairly private but dont want to have to change the window.

I don't see why you can't just get a hole drilled with a core bit.
Failing that just drill multiple small pilot holes with SDS bits and kango out 100mm hole.
No big deal to do - granite cladding or not.

That part of the house is very old and I have seen pictures of it during reconstruction, its not cladding its and old granite house with new concrete blocks inside. The wall thickness at the window is over 2 foot thick and the stone blocks on outside are very big.

I suppose I could go through the wall but it will be a difficult job and wondering if there were any alternatives.

I think have a window fan fitted and frosted film on the window for privacy.

I have put vents out through old stone walls over 3 feet thick with no problem.
I know it seems a bit daunting but just requires care and patience.
For a stone wall i drill a small pilot hole (may need a few attempts, moving slightly and restarting) and then enlarge this gradually working from both sides.
The final hole may be quite a bit larger than necessary but insert 4 inch pvc sewer pipe and rebuild around it. Usually takes about an hour, but don't rush it.
