Our big old mutt, he's the size of a lab, I bring his kennel out of the garage for spring/summer and back into the garage for autumn/winter, he's 8 now and I've done this every yr since he was a chap and there's been no probs...till now, he won't entertain going in, he's been sleeping at the back door since Saturday, he's never been in the house as the wife doesn't want him in doors, the kennel is insulated, I even built a block wall facing away from the door of in the garage where his kennel is so no breeze gets at him..

Hmmm, time to get rid of the the wife.......

Seriously, try putting the kennel back out, he may prefer it still as it's not that cold yet.

just bring him indoors. He's getting old and shouldn't be outside-it is actually quite chilly at night already, had grass-frost this morning. Maybe you can clear one room only for him where he can sleep in comfort...

I wonder if cats/foxes have peed in the kennel which would make him loath to go in?

It is getting colder now - we've been having ground frost.

Is the kennel raised up a bit off the ground? Having proper insulation in it will help him, as he is getting on in dog years now.

Did he go into it up until the day you moved it? It may have been going on longer than when you moved it. I wonder would a cat have gone in and if your dog disturbed them in there they could have gone on the defensive and scratched or hissed at them?

Great news, got up this morning and found him in the kennel...and the three cats were with him, just gone out to feed him before I hit the hay and he's in it again, the garage doubles as a workshop and I have a old pot belly stove that I've fired up tonight for him, he'll be looking for breakfast in bed next...thanks everyone for the replies, was getting worried about him...
