I m thinking of starting up a child minding service in my Own home and offering a collection and drop off service to school and activities. If I register my services as a sole trader or company could I claim commercial rate motor tax on the vehicle I'm using to transport the children in. I'm planning on an 8 seater ford, and could I claim other tax relief on equipment ( such as toys, games, electricity etc)

If the vehicle is taxed as private then no. It it is commercial (i.e. a bus) then you need a PSV licence to drive it, different story altogether.

As a sole trader, normally you add up the yearly cost or running the vehicle (fuel, service, maintenance, insurance) and apportion a percentage to business vs personal use and then claim that as an expense in income tax.
