    Hi,

So have an old banger that I need gone.

Before the engine got a bit rocky 2 months ago I replaced it with brand new tyres/new exhaust/Lock Nuts /new brake discs + pads. It has a good enough CD player radio.

I dont have space to put it up on bricks and sell it off bit by bit ( Plus the missus would have me shot for Lowering the tone of the neighborhood wot wot :) )

So what would ye wise folk do (They were about 160 for the 4 tyres and still look good as new)..

    Option A or B

A: Stick it on Adverts etc.
B: Look for a breakers yard that understand the possibility of making a couple hundred from the trimmings.

Dont really know what's wrong with the engin (it's pulling a bit!) but I'm driving it everyday to work no hassle as long as I rev the **** out of it. Would any garages be interested? It'd be a great starter car if it was a simple engine fix! I'm just finished with it and want rid quickly.

    Cheers folks

adverts.ie is an option, or there's a facebook site for vehicles under €600, which could well be an option.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Sounds like the clutch or gearbox TBH. Wouldn't kill it off just yet!

A 20 year old 323 won't have much of anything of value parts wise, too old and rare to have much demand for parts now, no scrappie will be giving you more than steel recycling weight price.

If you want to keep the tyres either you could see if a scrappie has a set of steel rims+tyres that fit and swap them out or see if the end of life scrappie will allow you to do it, unless you have a car to put them on and they are an expensive set it probably wouldn't be worth the bother.

CD player can easily be removed, don't forget to extract the sleeve as well. Even that won't be of great value though as most cars sub 10 years have custom fit systems.

put on adverts or scumdeal, but be ready to deal with idiots, if anyone is interested you will probably get the same with junk tyres and missing stereo as with as long as they are gone before you put it up

Every time I see a thread like this, I'm reminded of the time I got a used gearbox off a spares/breakers for about 100 before fitting. And later a coil unit for about 20.

The parts are worth money if they're reusable. There are breaking costs, but a place offering just steel weight value just seems off to me...

There is quite a lot of labour in stripping the useable parts of a car. Then you've to wait for buyers to come along. Any genuine place will have big enough overheads when you consider rent, licence, tools, staff costs, electricity, water rates etc.

A man in his shed, not so much, but there's still a tonne of labour involved. And it's not exactly legal.

Scrap metal business is a fantastic way to legitimize money though. That gearbox can just as easily be marked sold for 200 in the books, than the 100 you paid.

Op, you're looking at most 30 quid in scrap value. If you can deal with the dregs of society that will ring you, pop it up on donedeal for 150 quid.
4 new tyres that cost 160 Euro including fitting won't appeal to too many anyway

True enough. The place I'm thinking of had big premises, quite a few staff with matching overalls, lots of cars for the picking, and two~way radios to keep the staff in contact. Plus diligent professional mechanics who called me about a separate issue that they could sort 'while they were in there'.

I wonder would such places buy direct? Or get parts from pure scrapyards?

Park it in Finglas. Lock it. (Has to be locked). And walk away.

Please don't dump your car like suggested by ^^^
It'll just come back to bite you, besides it's a environmental issue and a hazard if/when local eejits break or burn it.

Contact city council and ask about recycling centres for cars. They will give you and end-of-life certificate.

Ya, although I like the idea of walking away with big explosion and me not looking back. But won't.... (wonder would fair city be looking for car to crash :)

Seems a pity to dump it for twenty quid when I just wasted a few hundred quid but shur such is life.

If I were to put it up on adverts and someone came to collect what do I do! (just sign over the change of ownership form.?) presume i should photograph their licence or something. What if it's driven through tolls and stuff on the day I sell it?

If you sell car you get them to fill their details into the logbook.
Then YOU send the logbook off to Shannon - don't give it to buyer.
You don't have to photograph anything.

Best advice is just to sell to a recycling centre or scrap yard and get an end of life certificate.
Out of sight out of mind .
I think you are over estimating the value of the parts you put in the car.
The tyres were 40 quid a piece new, worth 15/20 a piece second hand plus fitting so probably best to buy new. Also how many people will go to a scrap yard to buy tyres.
Brake discs and pads. I believe noone will buy second hand brake discs and pads off a scrap car.
Exhaust , possible worth a few quid but the problem is to find someone that wants an exhaust for what is now a rare car.
Radio. I bought new JVC cd mp3 players off pixmania fo 65 a piece. new sony cd mp3 players for 45 a piece both delivered with warranties. Whats a second hand radio worth then.

Guys on the insurance forum maintain that car radio theft of non factory radios is still a big deal. Second hand radios must be at least as valuable as used VCRs...
