I have put off replacing the valve for months as I had intended getting a new motor 8 months nct and 3 months tax on it at present , my usual mechanic cleaned out the throttle body a few weeks ago after the car cutting out several times.
problem has started to reoccur again and I am pretty sure its the same cause again .
A "Guy in the Pub" tells me the cheapest and easiest solution to solve this problem is to block off the valve.
Given that I only intend to drive it for a few more months
A... could this solve the engine cutouts at present happening about 2 a week .
    B, whats the downside
mechanic wants 320e plus labour to fit a new one ,only fault that showed up on computer 3 weeks ago was the valve...all else seamed ok.

Thats a lot to be spending on a 2001 Golf. What is the exact EGR related fault code? Is it a circuit fault or a flow issue?
