After years of threatening to take up golf I've finally taken the plunge, took a few lessons and joined a club. Going up practicing a few times a week but as you can imagine a good few golf balls are going astray. what would be a good website to purchase 2nd hand golf balls and what would be the best ball for a beginner to use in terms of accuracy.

And if any of you more experienced golfers have any words of wisdom to pass on that would be very much welcomed

I don't know if you play any casual rounds or practice rounds at your club, but when I do and I lose a ball, I almost always find a couple when looking for my own. It's surprising how many balls you can pick up during a season if you do this regularly. I haven't bought a golf ball in over a year now. :)

Good value there for a new ball (although it is likely crap) but cheap enough if you're not at the stage where the ball could be a major contributor to a bad shot.

Best of luck and welcome to the golf world. Moments of happiness & demented rage all rolled in to one.

Dunlop balls are grand, I've had my best rounds with them. You're only starting out, don't get caught up in marketing jargon, there's actually little difference between the cheapest and most expensive balls.

Hi Seamie, if you have joined a club i'd advise you play early one morning when there is noone else on the course or at least not many,
find some holes with obvious hot spots for lost balls, usually 200 yards off the tee to the right for the faders and maybey further on the left from the guys who draw, look for long rough and you will find many.If the club has a practice ground, i would go there and just hit buckets of 8 9 and pitching wedge shots to get your natural swing plane and work from there.I'm a decent golfer and i go to my local gaa pitch and hit 10 balls from one goal to the next and just keep repeating trying to get it on the goal line! Practice practice practice

As AnneFrank says practice, practice, practice and also patience, patience, patience. Takes a while to improve and even then you'll still hit bad shots. Learn to laugh them off early and you'll enjoy golf the more for it.

+1 on the Dunlops. Great ball for starting out, cheap as chips and you don't feel bad about losing them.

I bought a good few boxes of them a couple of years ago at about that price and still have a good few left. Always have some in the bag that come out if I'm having a bad day and losing balls.

Those boxes have 15 balls in them btw. You look at 15 balls for €6 against the likes of Titleist and other big brands and it's a no-brainer. :)

    40c for a Dunlop against €4 for a Pro V1
