    Hi,

I have been doing some researching on what bread to use for a Sucker to Beef herd.
What traits to look for and they and get

    Milk production,
    Easy calving,
    Weight Gain,
    Overall size,
    ETC
All have different Reasons for looking for different Traits.

What breads to people here use and Why?

With current beef prices I'd be aiming for the fancy calf to send overseas. Ch for beef limo as an all rounder .

I was just talking about this topic this evening with a friend as an alternative to sucklers and selling weanlings at 8-10 months old. We thought a good red white Bull on milky charlaois cows, should give a very good heifer to kill at 20 months and bullock at 24 months. That was our two cents on the idea......

I have a mixture of breeds of Cows, all of them start with Frisian then crossed with Hereford. Basically a continental bred from a Black-Whitehead cow

The best are bred as follows I have are as follows

    25% Frisian 25% Hereford 50% Simmental -> Produces Gray/White calves
25% Frisian 25% Hereford 50% Charolais -> Produces White calves
25% Frisian 25% Angus 50% Simmental -> Produces Gray calves
I`m using a Terminal Charolais Bull

All these cows calf every year no problems, have plenty milk and produce a smashing calf

These type of cows are not easy to source now as very few Dairy cattle are 100% Frisian, they contain lots of Holstein and Jersey mix which while they breed a cow that has plenty milk, they are small narrow and furthermore have a very narrow pelvis which is a big no no.
I wouldn't get too hung up on the Breed as long as theirs milk in them and the Cows are wide and roomy
