Your post makes no sense. Too vague!

What is the "hole". Is it the oil filler cap of the engine/back end? Is it a breather pipe of some sort for engine/backend?

A "hole where you connect the loader" sounds like a quick release valve of some sort to me. Smoke can't come out of a quick release.

Or is it a bolt hole on the chassis where the loader brackets bolt into?
If so, then it's possible the smell and smoke are coming from the clutch? Does this tractor have a dry clutch? Is it slipping? In moving the bales was the clutch getting heavy usage?

Which glass bowl? Is that the diesel pre-filter?

Topped up which oil? Engine or back end?

Tbh, its sounding like its the clutch but you'll have to clarify the situation for us.

If it's the breather pipe the engine is fcuked and needs reconditioning. Are those 90 series any good otherwise, they can be got for handy money.

    Known for having weak clutches:
The Explorer 90 is well known for having an inadquate clutch for loader work, while some of the later Rubins gave the most brutal electronic trouble.
